UPDATE: 1/15/19: Every day is getting better and closer to my goals. I have several cute shoes with heels that range in height and width. Can't wait to see what all i accomplish in 2019!!!!

2 months ago a simple clumsy fall caused a dislocated and shattered ankle. Now 2 surgeries, 2 plates, 1 rod and more screws that I care to count, severally set me back and prevented moving forward. During all of this, I was repeatedly asked “how did I do this?”. I thought about telling them it was a skiing accident on a black diamond slope but, alas, I was spring cleaning and simply took a bad step. Lucky me…(eye roll). I know all too well, the anger and frustration that comes with not being able to move or do things for yourself. I watched as my weight went up, muscle tone went down and in the case of the injured leg, the muscle and flexibility completely vanished. I'm usually a short cut kind of gal concerning weight loss/fitness but, this was and still is something that I make sure I follow the doctor's instructions, actually attend and practice the physical therapy sessions and hold back on pushing myself too far. My workouts are extremely modified and seem to take longer but, things are looking up. Goals I have other than weight loss, are getting back into my running shoes and my stilettos.
Ps: With all the hardware in my right foot/ankle and also the rods, etc. in my right arm from a previous accident, my son thinks it’s kinda cool that I’m almost halfway to becoming a human/robot hybrid. lol Plus, before a stretch or workout session, I kind of remind myself of the tin man from the Wizard of Oz when he's in need of his oil can.

    Nice to meet you. I am 6 months post foot surgery and starting feel a bit normal. I have had to cut my calories way back to avoid gaining due to lack of mobility. Slow steady is working...most of the time.

    I see you added me. It warmed my heart, that perhaps what I said helped....
    I also just read you messed up your ankle. Sorry that happened. I also get feeling a bit funny, as to why this occurred. I also want to let you know, once I dislocated my knee cap more than once, from a bike that didn't fit properly. One occasion I leaned over to pick up my hairbrush on the floor. For awhile, Another time I was merely cleaning the oven. I figured I must have bursitis . All these things went away.


    The thing that happened several months before we moved. I cut my finger cleaning a can out. I had it operated on , since it had severed the tendon. I couldn't believe it took nearly a year c for it to be totally normal, with physical therapy.

    All these people told me, don't ride your bike anymore , and all those other things. I wouldn't do that.

    I am many years older, and glad I didn't listen to such nonsense . One doctor was a sports therapist. For my knee, I needed orthotics , since I was walking strange, to compensate I declared, but I have had flat feet my entire life so far. Well, I did. That didn't fix my knee. That's all he offered.

    What I am saying is a chiropractor, a sports therapist and podiatrist didn't fit it. The chiro, said, get physical therapy or he would show me how next door. My insurance wouldn't pay. I brought in a book and inquired. No answers. I saved my money from ironing shirts, rode on it from 5 minutes, until 60 min. All fixed knee. All of them had said, oh your such and such age, and live with it.

    So you have to advocate and also learn that no matter ones age, things happen. Also keep trying with food and exercise. Get support, which is what your doing. GOOD !!! for you girlfriend.
