May 2013...So another hear gone by and I'm still not where I need to be!!! Gained back the 30 pounds I lost last year and have lost 28 of them again. So almost back to where I was. There's no going back again though. Was diagnosed with diabetes in Jan of this year so now it is even more important to get my weight under control. Doing low carb seems to work best to keep my blood sugar stable and help loose weight.

March 2012 OK, It's now another year down. Much better progress than the first of last year, THANK GOODNESS! I'm down 30 pounds since the middle of last year. I think I've finally got this yo-yo crap under control. Have changed to a low carb lifestyle and it seems to be working for me. DUH, 30 pounds lost!! Also feel better mentally. Depression & mental fog has gone! Working on the exercise part, still hate to exercise, but I really do feel better afterwards. So I'm slowly increasing the time allotted and will increase as stamina increases.

Jan. 16, 2011 So...... I fell off the wagon for the last year gained 30 pounds back that I lost plus a few more. Going to make another stab at getting fit & healthy. Don't know why I do this to myself, I KNOW better!!

The following was posted ages ago, but it still holds true so I'll leave it.

I have finally reached a point in my life where I have to make dietary changes for health reasons. My main goals are to eat healthier and get more exercise. I'm using Sparkpeople for back-up motivation, progress tracker & helpful tips and ideas.

I saw this on a thread and thought it was so powerful a message I want it to have at my fingertips to read daily.

I am your constant companion.
I am your greatest asset or heaviest burden.
I will push you up to success or down to disappointment.
I am at your command.
Half the things you do might just
as well be turned over to me,
For I can do them quickly, correctly, and profitably.
I am easily managed, just be firm with me.
Those who are great, I have made great.
Those who are failures, I have made failures.
I am not a machine, though I work with the precision of a
machine and the intelligence of a person.
You can run me for profit, or you can run me for ruin.
Show me how you want it done. Educate me. Train me.
Lead me. Reward me.
And I will it automatically.
I am your servant.
Who am I?
I am a habit.

Discipline weighs ounces, regret weighs tons. Jim Ro

Thanks to Milly61 for these great pointersl

1. Set achievable goals and celebrate when you reach them.

2. Be consistent in always getting back up when you fall, just keep going.

3. Be honest with yourself and others, no more hiding.

4. Get excited, find what motivates you.

5. Visualize where you want to be and remember how far you've come.

My Goals:

Eliminate PROCESSED foods as much as possible.

Do not let emotions rule my eating plan. (This is a real challenge for me!)

My Program:
Low carb lifestyle.

Personal Information:
I have learned (FINALLY) after years of yo-yo dieting that there is no quick fix. To gain control of a weight problem I have to eat smaller portions of real food, not prepacked processed imitation stuff, and move my body.

Other Information:
Found a book called "The Volumetrics Weight-Control Plan" by Barbara Rolls to be very helpful. Shows you how to make food choices so that you can eat, feel full and still reduce your caloric intake. Has some great recipes too.
