I've been dieting on and off since 5th grade, though I wasn't really overweight until I hit about 8th grade, I think. Anyway, I've done some of the major diet plans and some rather obscure ones as well. Some of them were more successful than others for peeling off the weight, but clearly the changes were not permanent and therefore neither was the weight loss.

So now I'm working on this stuff yet again. I had some success with Sparkpeople in the fall and winter of 2009/2010 and then stopped. I guess I got lazy. I gained back a few pounds but not all of them. What really stopped was the exercise routine. My husband is a long-distance bicyclist, and he goes out three or four times a week. I was going with him once a week with the kids on a short trip ending at the ice cream shop. But that was it. So I'm not as fit now as I was in 2010.

Lately my company's health insurance announced a change. They're now offering 'discounts' for employees who complete certain actions and get measured on certain criteria, like blood pressure, weight, and a few other things. If you can't meet the criteria for 'normal' for a given measure, you can take a 'class' to get the same discount, but they will be expecting changes, I'm certain. So what it amounts to is a higher price for fat people, for smokers, for people with high blood pressure, etc. starting next year. So I have until September 30, 2012 to get down to a normal BMI for my height--about 140 lbs since I'm 5'3" tall, to meet the criteria for weight. Fortunately I'm otherwise healthy and I don't smoke, so I don't have to worry about the other measures. Of course, I could sit on my butt and take a 'class' but what I really *don't* want is a well-meaning stranger cracking the whip or making me feel guilty.

So, 25 lbs to lose, and 6 months to do it in. In theory it's possible, but it is definitely no gimme.

Trying the C25K routine right now to get some more activity. I think next week the family bike ride to the ice cream shop starts..

My Goals:
First, try to get the last 15 lbs of baby fat gone. Once that's done, then try to get rid of another 20 lbs. Then see if I still need to get rid of more.

During the holidays I will accept slower progress because of the disruption to schedule and planning, but I still intend to log my food whenever possible and get whatever exercise I can get.

My Program:
CSA and garden vegetables. CSA for local meats.

Hubby wants me to do a 5k run..

Personal Information:
I live within striking distance of Charlotte, NC. I have twins born in 2005 and a wonderful husband.

I am a computer geek for a global company that manufactures computers and other technological gadgetry.

Other Information:
I enjoy reading, though I don't get to do much recreational reading these days. I enjoy cooking and eating interesting food. I especially love ethnic foods from around the world.

My mother's mother had at least 8 heart attacks and two strokes, as well as type 2 diabetes and who knows what else. My mother's father had two strokes. My mother has hypoglycemia and iron-deficiency anemia, and gets migraines regularly. My father's father died of a heart attack. My father's mother was mostly deaf before she died of something blood-related when she was 93. My father had a triple bypass a few years ago, and regularly battles his gout. I am healthy but overweight. I get migraines with aura occasionally. I was recently diagnosed with depression..

I really want to give my kids good eating and exercise habits so they can stay lean and healthy like their dad. :)

Hey Lady! How are you? Things are looking normal for me over here. My 4 year old is getting his spleen removed next week, and then things should really look normal. I'm excited to be back. I haven't gained weight, good thing, but I haven't lost any either. Hope to hear from you soon!

The worst part is that I missed you and spark people. I actually decided it was best not to get a ton of friends on here and stick to a few.

I haven't been using my spark people and it's been showing. I gained a couple of pounds (2-3) over the past month so it's not too bad. I'm pretty happy with that actually. Now to get back on track. And as soon as that 8 year old is feeling ill. He's been home this week. He's not going back to school tomorrow either. Ugh. I just want to get illnesses out of my house!

you are getting so close to your goal. i'm so proud of you. my pnuemonia is getting better. My doc gave me permission to work out. However, if I start to get tired I have to quit. Ugh. I hate this. I've been eating crappy too.

My mom is here to spend time with my kids for thanksgiving that's nice. Although, my husband and I are looking to get out of the house haha. So I told him we'd go to the gym.

I'm so proud of you. Keep it up!

Thanks for your pep talk. It's good to see that people really are ready to jump in and help. I have a hard time sharing with others and it's only because I think I should be able to do this myself...But, duh, that hasn't happened in the past few years that I've been trying. You are right in that this is the time to be stronger and feel better. I can only do that if I think I can and if I listen to the wisdom of others! It does matter... emoticon
