My name is Amy and I live in Western Nebraska. I have been a "Sparker" since 2007. I am a single mom of four (or six) children: Erin (15), Jacob (11), Ryan (7), and Patrick(5), Reggie, our 2 year-old Standard Poodle, and Shannon, our orange tabby cat. It's officially been a year since my divorce has been final. I am very happy and ready to move on with my life, ready for Mr. right!. I am now working full time as a Rehab Tech in the Physical Therapy department at our local hospital, and I love it! Having not been in the "working world" for almost 10 years, I thought I would really struggle going back to work. I could not have been more wrong!! Life is very hectic right now, but the kids and I are finding a new "normal". I have put on about 15 pounds through it all. Food is still proving to be problematic, at times, but I'll get that together sooner or later. I am looking forward to 2012 and all it has to offer in my "new life"!

I have battled food most of my life and consider myself a compulsive binge eater. I eat for a lot of reasons but usually out of boredom or when I am feeling depressed, another issue I have long battled with. I have gained and lost weight on more than a couple occassions but this time is hopefully going to be my last. I lost 34 pounds with SparkPeople but lost that passion for it around the holidays. In January I had a foot injury and gave up altogether since I could not exercise. I gained back 18 of those pounds between January and July 2008. The foot is getting better and I have that passion again and I am ready to go!!!

Update 12/18/09:
This year has been quite interesting, to say the least. I had the best summer I can remember since childhood! I started running, something I NEVER thought I would or could do and got down to 157 pounds in July. A good friend of mine became ill August and, by early September, was really needing my help with her children. She had previously had a very aggressive form of breast cancer and it had returned, with a vengeance. I was now taking care of her 2 small children, and mine, every day, putting myself and my needs on the back burner (not to mention my babysitting daughter went back to school and left me without the ability to get out to run). Needless to say, the pounds started to creep back on, 14 of them to be exact. The beginning of October saw my grandmother, who had dementia, having a stroke and passing away while my friend was put into an assisted living facility where she spent her final weeks. She passed away November 2nd, leaving behind a 2 yr old, a 5 yr old, and a husband who can't hardly take care of himself, let alone two small children. I am still caring for the children on a daily basis while dad goes to work, but I have re-prioritized and put the focus back on taking care of me first so I CAN take care of everyone else. We recently purchased a treadmill from a friend so I am able to walk and run during the day, and I am also still in love with my FIRM videos. I'm eating well, drinking lots of water, staying focused and active. I am down from 171.5 to 164.5 since December 1st and I'm SO ready to keep it going!!

Update 3/24/10:

I finally let go of my friends' two little kids, for my own sanity (I couldn't handle their dad anymore). The treadmill I was so excited about was in need of repair, so we sold it and bought a family membership to the YMCA. I can take my 3 1/2 year-old with me, and I do, 3 days per week to run and then we go as a family on the weekends. I'm a little dissapointed that I am at the same weight today as I was last July, and that I have gained and lost the same 10-12 pounds between then and now. I am on a roll with the running and exercise but have been struggling with the food up until this week. I was glad to lose those few pounds this week as I am totally committed again and am looking forward to the next 27 coming off. I am averaging 3.5 pounds per month...not a ton, but I'll take it!!

Ultimate goal of 130, but more to feel good about myself again and be comfortable in my skin.

My Program:
I am following Sparkpeople to keep my calories around 1200 per day, in the right proportion. I make my own menu, I don't follow the one they give on SP.

I started running in May of 2009, but have quit several times since then. I have come to the conclusion that I am not a runner. I hate it. It makes me hurt. It takes everything I have just to get through it. So, I have gone back to what I know works, and what I know I will stick with; my workout videos from The Firm. I love them!

80 %what you eat & 20% what you do (exercise)

Some people exercise like crazy, don't change their diet, then complain they are not losing weight. Others will totally revamp their diet and exercise only 3 days per week and drop the pounds. If you are struggling to lose, adjust your diet! I have a slow metabolism so if I eat more than 1500 calories per day I don't lose any weight!
You MUST control the food!!

Personal Information:
I am originally from the Denver metro area, but moved to Nebraska in May of 1999. I have met some wonderful people here and have become accustomed to the small town life, and it's great for raising a family.
