The proverb "Physician heal thyself" sums up nicely the reason why I want to lose weight. As a therapist part of my job is to hold people accountable for the choices they make. This blog is my opportunity to "therapize" myself and stop using well thought out excuses, rationalizations, and psychobabble to delude myself into being okay with being well padded.

The foundation of my weight loss plan is Dr. Judith Beck's - The Complete Beck Diet for Life. I am a fan of cognitive-behavioral therapy and have found it to be beneficial working with the cognitive distortions of my clients, as well as myself.

What I want to accomplish is not simply to reach my goal weight and then revert back to my old habits. I am working on reshaping my life so that it is about living a healthy lifestyle and not just about dropping the pounds. In order to develop a healthier lifestyle and reach my goal weight of 108 lbs, I have been reading books focusing on eating and weight loss.

Here is the list of books I have read and have found to be helpful in exploring my relationship with food and working towards making this relationship become a positive one.

The Beck Diet Solution: Train Your Brain to Think Like A Thin Person by Dr. Judith Beck

Beck Diet Solution Weight Loss Workbook: The 6 Week Plan to Train Your Brain to Think Like A Thin Person by Dr. Judith Beck

The Complete Beck Diet for Life by Dr. Judith Beck

The Writing Diet: Write Yourself Right-Size by Julia Cameron

French Women Don't Get Fat: The Secret of Eating for Pleasure by Mireille Guiliano

The Rules of "Normal Eating" by Karen R. Koenig

What Every Therapist Needs to Know About Treating Eating and Weight Issues by Karen R. Koenig

I Can Make You Thin by Paul McKenna

Intuitive Eating by Evelyn Tribole and Elyse Resch

Take a look at some of my blog entries and perhaps you will gain a useful insight or have a laugh. Thanks for dropping by my electronic corner of the Internet and feel free to shoot me a message.

    Welcome to the EE team!!

I’ve belonged to a lot of teams here on spark-- i really do believe that the Emotional Eaters team is one of the very best, it’s a great group of people- very supportive and encouraging-- and it is very refreshing to talk with people who "get" what you're going through!!

Check out the main page of the EE team- there are “stickied” topics you may be interested in to get involved- a buddy thread, a place to introduce yourself, weigh-in challenge, a birthday post.

Spark has a lot of great tools, and you will learn which ones work best for you. The best tools are the people tho, always willing to lend a hand, an ear, or a shoulder. I’ve been here for over a year now, and I still am overwhelmed, every day, by the kindness and goodness of others on this team!! That has made a world of difference for me. I hope you have the same success!

~~best of luck to you on all of your goals!!!

I'm so very glad that you've joined the Emotional Eaters Team. The team is a place where you can vent. And where you will receive some awesome support. Of course, I am biased ... it's a great team! I hope you find exactly what you are looking for! Welcome to the team!

Be sure to ask questions if you have them ... someone will likely have the answer. Use the tools SparkPeople provides. They are invaluable. If you feel an emotional eating attack coming on, come to the boards first. Write about it instead of pushing the feelings away with food. We're here for you!

    Eat well, journey well,
