Hoping to improve overall fitness level and increase my self-confidence and prevent future obesity-related diseases through responsible eating and fitness. I recently became vegetarian after a lifetime of not eating that much meat. I viewed some documentaries (Vegucated, Forks over Knives) and read a book called Eating Animals by Jonathan Safran Foer that really opened my eyes (even more than reading Michael Pollan's work had), to the horrific conditions under which most meat/dairy/eggs/fish are brought to us. I felt no need to continue supporting that travesty of a meat industry, and am slowly cutting back on dairy/eggs as well.

Right now, I am about to graduate with a master's in nutrition, and while I've had ups and downs with it, overall I am still motivated to continue with my career aiming to help people make better choices for their long-term health. Not just with diet, but with stress reduction and exercise as well.

Starting weight before SparkPeople in June, 2009: 222 lbs. By October 2009, I had gotten down to 200 lbs on my own. I joined SP to help me get rid of the rest of this excess weight back in October 2009. I was active on the site for quite some time, racking up points and pounds lost, eventually losing over 40 lbs total, which was over halfway to my goal weight.

By 2011, I was back up to 200-something lbs, and am now motivated to lose the weight once again and for good!

My Goals:
First, to eat more fruits and vegetables. (Done!)

Second, to eat less sweets overall (still working on this one).

Third, Get back on the exercise wagon! (That includes swing dancing more often)

My Program:
I don't follow a specific diet. By trying to eat more fruits and vegetables, I find that I don't eat as much of the junk that I used to snack on.

Personal Information:
Nutritionist
Part-time artist and writer. Sometimes swing dancer. Chronic disease preventer (hopefully!)

Other Information:
As Good As It Gets might be one of my favorite movies ever made. It's irreverent and not very PC, yes, but it truly hits home with its dysfunctional characters.

I started eating fish again about 6 months ago and I really love being a pesco-ovo-lacto vegetarian. It gives meals a little more variety, and if I want something "meaty" I can have some salmon or tuna. Thought a fellow foodie/nutrition person could use a strawberry for her sparkpage! I actually just had the BEST strawberry last night, my friend said it was from Costco. Have a great day!
