I lost 30lbs with SparkPeople back in 2009, and maintained for a while. I got serious about fitness, and learned all sorts of things. Then I went from a warehouse job to a desk job, herniated a disk, gained too much weight from inactivity, then had a baby. This is me doing it all over again.

If you need a SparkBuddy, feel free to add/message me :)

Some things I have learned along the way:

* Weight loss is a mind game. You have to know exactly what your boundaries are and stick to them no matter what.

* Once you're at goal weight, there's a LOT more work to be done. You won't look like you think you will in a bikini. You'll still have all the pockets of fat, but less of it. It takes a while to tone and even out, be patient! Don't stop working out just because you hit goal weight.

* While you're maintaining, it's very hard to change your mind frame from "No, I can't eat that" to "Yes, I need to get my calories in." This doesn't mean eat junk, it means eating more calories in healthy foods. Add some eggs to your burgers, add a little butter to your sandwiches, put a little coconut oil in your smoothies, etc.

* Know your body. If something doesn't agree with you, don't eat it. Even if it's on the food pyramid, and labeled "healthy" for you. It will cause you much more problems down the road. It's your body, not whoever it was that decided this or that food is healthy for you. Every body has different chemistry.

* Enjoy your workouts. Find something you find fun to do. If you don't enjoy it, chances are great that you won't continue after reaching your initial goals.

* You don't have to have a gym membership. Yes, ellipticals are great, and weight machines are handy. There are a lot of exercises that you can benefit more from that use your own body weight. There are also great workout videos out there. Do some research and find what works for other people.

*I focused more on strength training, rather than cardio, because I hated cardio with a passion. For that reason, my flab never went away. The easiest way to get rid of it is cardio cardio cardio!

* LOVE YOURSELF. Embrace who you are and run with it. You have one life, make it healthy and happy!

Oh I hear you on the prep of salads, it can be a right pain washing and chopping it all! I get sick of it myself sometimes and on those days I go for the easy stuff like just shoving a couple sweet potatoes in the oven or steaming some peas in 10 mins flat emoticon

Thanks for the support on my blog too. Good luck on the veggie quest! emoticon

We're having about 175-200 I think (eek!). Both my fiance and I have very large families, so the guest list added up fast. How many are you having?

Yeah, I tend to knit in spurts too. Ick, carpal tunnel, huh? Let me guess, desk job? I'm sure I'll be running into similar issues in a few years, so I'm enjoying it while I can.

Dawww, chickens in sweaters?! That's adorable! Such a bummer they couldn't handle them. emoticon Did they have wing holes and all or were they like a cape?

    You're welcome! Glad I could help :)

Nice!! You guys really are on the ball! We had a pretty long list, and it was tough to track everyone down...even the grandmas didn't know everyone's addresses anymore because (according to them) "so few people send Christmas cards now." Our planning is going pretty smoothly. Deposits are paid, now we just have to get the invites arranged and sent.

I LOVE to knit and crochet! I'm working on knitting a baby blanket right now for a friend who is due this winter. It's just so relaxing. Do you knit and crochet also?

Hi, I was scrolling through the Spark Teams and saw one of your posts. Your "Yoga" blog caught my attention! My work just started offering this for employees. I have always "poo pooed" yoga and thought it was for the hippies...until I tried it! I have back issues which I am sure are attributed to extra pounds. I loved it! Thanks for an encouraging blog!
