Hi everyone! My name is Melissa, and I live in the Pocono's located in Pennsylvania. I have struggled with my weight since my teenage years. I remember being slightly over weight but not letting it get to me in my early teens. As I got older though it did bother me. I started to work out with my friends and reached my goal weight of 140 lb. I was strong, lean, and healthy.
Then I decided to go to college. I majored in biology with a minor in chemistry. My activity level plummeted as all my time was spent writing research papers and studying. I gained 50 lbs in 4 years! At my heaviest weight I was 197 lbs.
I saw a video of myself taken at Christmas, and I could not believe that was me! I didn't see that over weight girl when I looked in the mirror, I just saw me! That video was a wake up call, that I needed to do something!
A couple of years before I hit this low point, I did realize that I was gaining weight. One morning I woke up at 5 am, because of a hangover. I had left the TV on and there was a infomercial on about a work out video called Chalean Extreme. I impulsed bought that program. I stuck to it a little bit, but kept slacking. I didn't get much success with it, even though I liked it a lot. When I bought the program it came with a free coach, but I never contacted him and just left it at that.
A couple of years later I noticed that an acquaintance on facebook was a coach for BeachBody. She kept talking about TurboFire and how much she loved it. It was made by the same woman who had made Chalean Extreme. I decided that I would want to try it, I thought more cardio would help me lose some weight. I did do it for a while and lost 7 lbs.
Then I got an internship at Cape Cod National Seashore! It was a dream come true! 16 weeks of working on the beach, monitoring an endangered species of bird. It was a lot of hard work. I was walking on the beach for 8-10 miles a day. Plus it paid horribly, so I had to waitress 4 nights a week, walking another 4 miles a night. I was working 70 hours a week. While I lived up there I was eating so healthy because I was buying all the food. I lost 25 lbs!
Then I came home, eager to find a real job in my field. But a month after I came home, my mom was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive type of cancer. I wasn't willing to relocate to find my dream job. I got a job landscaping. But I was laid off in December. About 2 weeks before I got laid off, I started using my TurboFire again, and lost about 7 more lbs. I have about 30 more to lose to reach my goal weight of 130 lbs. But I'm sure I can do it.
Right now I am doing a hybrid work out of Chalean Extreme and TurboFire. I have lost 5 inches in the past month. Turning that fat into muscle baby!
But my biggest struggle is nutrition. Now that I have moved back in with my parents, I have been binge eating on crap food. But I think I have recently gotten that out of my system. I have been using a meal replacement shake that has really helped fighting my cravings.
The woman who sold me on TurboFire has been such a support in my life. I have decided that I want to help others the way she helped me. Seeing someone become successful because of me is the greatest feeling in the world! Seeing someone being comfortable in their own skin and feeling actually happy again is a great gift. So that's why I wanted to join SparkPeople. So I can be in a community of like minded people who truly want to support each other!

My Goals:
I want to reach a weight between 130-140 lbs. I want to run some 5ks this summer. I have never really been a runner but i want to change that. I want to be able to do real push ups. I also want to be comfortable this summer wearing a bikini.


My Program:
I am doing a TurboFire Chalean Extreme hybrid. But soon I will be starting a program called Les Mills Combat with my boyfriend. Will start running when the weather finally breaks.
