I love to run. It's the most basic sport anyone can undertake but one of the hardest to master.

For me, running has been a stress management tool, a vehicle for self-discovery, a platform for personal accomplishment, a research project, and a social activity.

Even though I'd been running for years, I'd never been able to lose weight until I started the Sparkpeople program. I'm finally off that too-heavy plateau!

This program helped me lose 20 pounds. I know that weight loss contributed to my running what was then a personal best marathon of 3:58:15 at Myrtle Beach on 2/17/07. Before Myrtle Beach, I had been trying to break four hours in the marathon for six years with no success.

I recently ran a personal best half marathon of 1:46:15 at the City of Oaks Half Marathon on 11/7/10. I ran a new PR in the marathon of 3:55:03 on 3/20/11. SparkPeople has helped me keep the weight off and improve my fitness.

I think someone can finish a marathon if they commit to a lifestyle change - just like the Sparkpeople way to lose weight and keep it off.

I have embraced the Sparkpeople program. The key thing I must continue to do is watch my portion sizes.

I'm a native North Carolinian, now living in Raleigh. I'm married to a wonderful woman and we have two fantastic kids.

For several years I've run 25-35 miles a week.

    Michael..thanks for the congrats. It wasn't my best race but I got it done. Lots of GI issues and a potty stop..gotta figure out what is going on before my next race. I would love to run a marathon with you someday but would have to get a whole lot faster and if I did I would BQ at 4:05..maybe someday....

    I Need You For My Trainer

    I"m maintaining my weight as of 1 year with Spark
    I Walks like 8-10 miles on any given day.

    I Trianed myself to Run a 5k which i'm a rookie at heart. I can't seem to get the nerve up to actually do one. I also have ran a 10K both times non-stop. I'm not sure what is wrong with me emoticon
    Oh ! I ran 10 non-stop miles too I have all the Motivation But I
    Need a push I Guess...

    I Just love It !
