I thought it might be time to update my spark page. I joined Spark People in 2016 and in a few weeks I will be celebrating my fourth Sparkversary! I thought it might be time to update my spark page. I joined Spark People in 2016 and in a few weeks I will be celebrating my fourth Sparkversary! I just can not believe that four years have gone by so quickly. In 2016 I was 66, still working and in the worst health of my life. I was a few pounds away from the dreaded 200's, had high blood pressure, was pre-diabetic and heart trouble was in my future as well. My Doctor laid out the truth for me and did not mince any words, believe me. She told me that if I didn't DO something I would not see my 70's. I went away from that meeting totally depressed and somewhat hopeless. After a couple of days of sulking I decided that I just had to at least try to fix things. I had seen an ad for Spark People on the internet so I took another look and decided to see what it was all about. I did (and still do) love to eat so the only way to make things better was to amp up my exercise level and replace some of my unhealthy snack addictions. The first week was great, I got up early, went for a morning walk and included a few vegetables (never a favourite of mine) in my food choices. I also ditched the soda and lived with the headache that followed. The second week again I did OK but by the third week I had mostly given up again. This is where I had to choose, better health and a longer life or not, it was that simple. I started again and this time I stuck with it. Four years later I no longer have high blood pressure, I am no longer pre-diabetic and my heart problems have mostly disappeared. I am now in the first year of my 7th decade (that sounds better than saying I am 70yrs old) and I have had some good days and some not so good but I will continue to seek good health and see just what the future holds for me.

My Goals:
My goal has not changed in the years since I dedicated my time to seeking out a way to live my best life. I will learn to like vegetables and I will replace soda with water and I will continue to spend more time outside walking instead of inside on the couch.
My Program:
My Program will always be Spark People. I tried all the others and gave up due to the fact that I lost more money than weight. Spark People Premium is the best program I have ever tried and is within my budget.
Personal Information:
I have been officially retired from the working world for four years now and I still love it. I am a dedicated cat person but have found that I can get a decent dog fix by stopping in at our local shelter and volunteering to walk some of the dogs that do not get enough attention. I always pick the older ones who have been there awhile and have very little chance of being adopted. My only problem is that I still want to take then all home with me.
