I've struggled for the past 15 years with weight. Prior to that it was a non issue. What changed? I developed goiter thyroid while pregnant with my sons and the goiters stayed hot making me hyperthyroid and then became a cancer risk so I had a complete Thyroidectomy 15 years ago. Nothing has been the same. The weight I had gained never came off even though I was "optimal" with meds. Developed arthritis issues, depression type symptoms. Lost interest in friends and life in general. Only thing I could focus on was raising my kids and meeting their needs. Seems typical. Annual testing showed no problems but little did any of us realize including me that my T4 only therapy wasn't working the way it should. Fast forward to October 2018. I employed a personal trainer to help me get moving again. I knew/know I need to change dietary habits but I knew I needed physical activity and to re-engage in life and living more. When she interviewed me she took notes went away and sent me some links to check out and see if any of these things had been checked and it was like opening a floodgate of information I had no idea about regarding medications, contradictions and the fact that in a lot of people T4 only therapies don't work long term. I switched to a more naturopathic Dr. to review my case and switched to a Natural Thyroid medicine that gives me more of what my body used to make on its own and it has changed my world. So now I'm back and determined to move forward again.

Fitness Minutes: 4,701

My Goals:
Short Term: Exercise at least 15 min a day 5 days a week. Reduce "bad" foods from diet things like sugars, flour, potatoes, breads, pastas. I won't say eliminate but my eating is out of balance for meeting nutritional requirements. Eating more often. With the medication issues I'm often not hungry to eat regular meals and I would skip I know this is bad. So goal is to eat and eat more often proper nutrition.

Personal Information:
I'm from North Central Pennsylvania. I have 2 sons both are out of high school. I have been a stay at home mom and now I have the early stages of empty nesting happening so I need to focus on me much more.


Other Information:
What I didn't know and not knowing how to be an advocate for myself all these years has not helped me. I am the support structure for so many but I failed to make sure I had someone that had my back. I was a typical mom and put everyone and everything ahead of myself. This past year I have had my warnings that I need to treat me better. Besides it is overdue. I've been a member of Spark People a long time but I've not really committed myself the way I should. My goals this year are to change that permanently and it is easier to say and believe because of all the recent medication changes and dietary shifts that are happening now I need to make it a plan and go with it and see where I get.

    the holidays was really nice but im so ready to get them behind me and get all the goodies out the house i have been slipping good thing is i didnt gain any weight but i did not get to exercise for a week being sick and now im back to feeling like my old self again so im determined to see that scale move hope u have a nice week ahead im glad you enjoyed my comments
