Well, hello there! Thanks for coming by!
05/09/2017 Four knee scopes, three (hundred+) pounds, two knee replacements, and a shoulder surgery later..... I have to do something to stop the impending train wreck that is my health. I'm heavier than ever before, and I'm starting to see health impacts. It has to change. No, *I* have to change. I know I did it once before - surely I can do it again! I'm heavier than ever before, and I'm starting to see health impacts. It has to change. No, *I* have to change. I know I did it once before - surely I can do it again! Today is day one. 04/27/2010 After a back injury followed by knee injuries almost a year ago, I have put back on almost all the weight I'd lost. *grumble mumble bleep bleep* I am starting to exercise again, but there are so many restrictions now... it's hard to get myself back into a pattern of wanting to work out. And eating? Ha! That's a roller coaster, too. 06/01/2009 After 5-6 months away and 25 pounds regained, I am back. I finally gave in and re-set all of my Spark stuff today. It was hard to see my old numbers go "bye bye" especially since sometimes it seems like it must have all just been a dream. Me, exercising for 5 hours a week? Ha! 06/05/2008 "It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver." -- Mahatma Gandhi, 1869-1948 05/24/08 FINALLY I feel like I'm getting back on track! 'Bout time! LOL 04/15/2008 Instead of judging, start accepting yourself with all the imperfections, all the frailties, all the mistakes, all the failures. Don't ask yourself to be perfect. That is simply asking something impossible, and then you are feeling frustrated. You are a human being. -- Osho, 1931-1990, Indian Spiritual Teacher 03/23/08 Quotes (Seen on KATMOMMA3's signature) - The pain of the problem is much easier to handle than the fear of the unknown future without it. - To say a personal problem controls you is to ignore the very power that GAVE it control over you to begin with: Your decision to make it so. - Nothing can be done with problems you want to keep. (OUCH!! She is so right. What's it going to take for me to LET GO of the things that are stopping me?) 03/09/2008 About the baby on my background pics - Actually, I have no idea who she is. I found that set of pics and fell in love with it. They made me think of me and some of my goals - to get back in touch with my inner child, to let myself be open and honest about whatever I am feeling at any point in time, and also my planned mid-term weight loss reward of a beach vacation. 02/27/2008 "An ounce of action is worth a ton of theory." - Philosopher and economist Friedrich Engels 01/01/2008 You have to expect things of yourself before you can do them. -- Michael Jordan (1963 - , American Basketball Player, Actor) 12/22/07 Begin doing what you want to do now. We are not living in eternity. We have only this moment, sparkling like a star in our hand -- and melting like a snowflake. -- Marie Beynon Ray 11/13/2007 Quote for the day: Live life fully while you're here. Experience everything. Take care of yourself and your friends. Have fun, be crazy, be weird. Go out and screw up! You're going to anyway, so you might as well enjoy the process. Take the opportunity to learn from your mistakes: find the cause of your problem and eliminate it. Don't try to be perfect; just be an excellent example of being human. -- Anthony Robbins, Inspirational Author and Speaker 08/26/07 Who IS this amazing woman I see in the mirror?? She insists on exercising every day. She gets caught doing funny stretches while standing in line or while on the phone at her desk. She has been secretly delighted to see the numbers on the calorie counter go down, down, down, while the exercise is going up. And she does all of it with a smile on her face. She's been the queen of perky lately. Who is she? Why, she's ME! [08/07/07] I've been with Sparkpeople for 4 weeks now, and it's been a tremendous help! I've dropped a few pounds, but more importantly I have gained an exercise habit! It feels WEIRD now if I don't do some form of exercise each day! Who'da thunk it... [07/23/07] Hi. Well, so far, so good. I've been able to stick to my fast break goals pretty well, and that gives me some incentive to keep doing them. I haven't seen any results yet (grrr!), but I'm going to keep on going and have faith that my body will eventually show the effects. (+ 07/25/07: I'm down a few pounds, finally!) [Original intro] I'm trying SparkPeople in the hope that it will help me motivate myself to exercise and avoid simple carbs. I found out I was hypoglycemic a year ago and managed to quit sugar cold turkey, losing 30 pounds in the process. Unfortunately, I started it again last fall and it has gotten a firm hold on me again in the last few months. I've also developed hypothyroidism in the past 7 months. I have been overweight all my adult life. I've watched my mother go from fat to morbidly obese, and I don't want to end up like her, with all the major health problems. If I think of it as dieting, I won't do it... so I choose to think of the changes I am trying to make as being things to help me feel better. I'm starting again... and I'm nervous about it... but it's now or never.

(Old info) On 01/08/2008 I weighed in at 220. The next couple of months were up and down between 215 and 220. I got down to 211 one day, then started bouncing back up to that same range again. Next goal is to break 210. At 200, I get to start planning a vacation to someplace warm with a beach!
I also set a new goal of being able to comfortably wear my old Chem-Physics club t-shirt -- from high school! -- by May. It's now June, and it fits - but not quite as well as I'd like yet. I'll get there... I will!!!
My Program:
I'm watching what I eat, counting calories, and exercising 5-6 days per week. I'm working out at the gym - stairstepper, elliptical, kickboxing, treadmill, weight machines, and free weights. I take at least 2 classes at the gym each week.
Personal Information:
I'm 43 and involved in a serious relationship since December 2008.
