Hi, I'm a 65 year old dieter. I've been gaining and losing the same 50 pounds for the last 30 years. In the past I walked 6 miles a day, and had great success with my weight loss, until I had a bad fall. I tripped on an uneven sidewalk, suffered a concussion, sprained fingers and pulled muscles in my abdomen. It wasn't my first fall, I'd had several over the years, sadly my family and I decided it wasn't safe for me to tread the sidewalks in my city anymore. I made the mistake of giving up walking rather than switching to a treadmill, I had tried the treadmill in the past, it just wasn't the same mental high I'd gotten from outdoor walking.
Recently had a severe ankle sprain, that had me sitting on the couch for months waiting for it to heal. During that time, I realized just how out of shape I really was, I vowed to myself that once I healed enough I would get myself back into shape. I don't have to be thin or look like a movie star, I want become proud of the shape that I am in. I got myself a treadmill and right off the bat, I've started interval walk/jogging on it. It has been the best thing for my ankle and my need for exercise! I think I am on the road to success!

It's been 5 years since I've updated my page.I am now 65 and I gained weight over the last 5 years. My poorly healed severely sprained ankle is problematic and it makes me sad that I can't walk the sidewalks of my town due to uneven sidewalks. My right knee is prone to small tears of the MCL, it takes weeks to heal, always feels stiff and "catchy". I worry about injury. I suffer from tendonitis of the wrist and ring finger, so weight training is out because I can't do multiple reps in lifting.

Two years ago I bought a recumbent bike, I planned on getting back into better shape I thought I found something that I can do that won't lead to further injury of my knee or ankle. Well, I was wrong, my ankle is still problematic, the bike makes it worse.

Yesterday was my 65th birthday, I am fat and out of shape, but vowed that I am going to start small and do something about the 50s I want to lose, heck at this point I'd be tickled pink to lose 30 pounds.
