Thanks for the comments on my blog. I have found by setting these goals that even on my bad days I can look back and still see progress toward my bigger goal. Good luck! I love having buddies around me!!

    Hello Laurean,

Thanks for stopping by my Spark Page!

Doing research to find out about the hCG diet is a good idea, as for any approach, so that you know what it's about and can see if it will work for you.

I have an blog outside of SparkPeople that has links to Dr. Simeons' Pounds and Inches in a .pdf format thatyou can download. The address is This the basis for this diet.

My doctor suggested the diet for me, and prescribed my hCG, but there are lots of places you can get it. You can do injections or drops under the tongue. I would also suggest joining the hcg support group I'm on and go through the posts to see what others have experienced, as well as find out where a good source is to get the drops, if you go that route.

To answer your specific questions, yes, the hormone keeps you from going into starvation mode, and your body utilizes the fat you have stored, rather than your muscle tissue. This protocol also helps you reset your metabolism. That doesn't mean you get a free pass on eating junk food after you've lost weight, but if you indulge occasionally, you won't have the extremes, as before.

A pound a day is the "average", but I wouldn't necessarily say expected. For example, I've lost a pound a day, but that is early on in the round, and then settle in for .5 each day, sometimes not even that. In the first round I lost 22 pounds in 40 days, this round, I'm almost at 10 pounds in almost 21 days, so it averages out.

If you have been exercising, they say to continue doing what you're accustomed to, but if you have not, then you should not start a new regimen at the same time you start the diet. I am a big proponent of exercise as a way to stay fit and healthy, but I have not been exercising on a consistent basis (a walk about once a week) while on this protocol. My goal is to re-shape my body once I've gotten rid of the fat; that's going to be another year's worth of work!

I hope this gives you some insight and points you towards finding out if this protocol is right for you.

    Take care,
