I have been overweight for all of my adult life and developed the whole rash of problems that go along with it, particularly hypertension, diabetes and asthma. In looking for the best way to deal with these issues, I began working on a low glycemic approach to my eating, and this has developed in a holistic approach to my entire life. I now am dedicated to focusing on healthy food choices, healthy cooking and adequate exercise. I intend to make the most of the rest of my life, one day at a time.

Since my original introduction I have been away from SparkPeople for the better part of years. I come on for brief periods, but soon give up. I have a new resolve to stick with better eating choices, mainly in order to get my blood sugar under control. I certainly hope these better choices also help me lose weight again. I am back where I started several years ago...

My Goals:
Firstly, I want to maintain my blood sugar at levels of 120 and below for as much of the time as possible, with an HbA1C of less than 6.
Second, I want to move out of the category of "obese."
Third, I want to be able to move without so much stiffness and pain upon standing.

My Program:
I am focusing on being low carbohydrate and/or low glycemic for weight loss and health.
My target for exercise is to do get back to doing something most days, mainly riding my bicycle and working to maintain the yard.

Personal Information:
I had always lived in Maine until about 10 years ago, when I started fulfilling my dreams of being in a better climate in the winter by being in Florida for the winter. In November 2013 I was able to become a full time FL resident and as of May 2014 I no longer have a residence in my home state!

I am married, with one adult handicapped child who lives in a group home.

I used to work full-time for an insurance company, but left in November 2013 in order to complete my move to Florida. I live with my husband of 43 years, 8 cats and 1 very small (5.5. pounds) dog..

Other Information:
I enjoy reading, music, television and movies. I took up learning to play the upright bass a few years ago and enjoy that though I've not been playing much recently and need to focus on it regularly again. My main focus is bluegrass and old time music, but I'm open to picking that bass with anyone who will let me!

    Nice to hear from you!

Alas, I didn't go down to the bonfire - truth be known, I was sound asleep when that took place. I've never done New Year's by the Bay before... although I have been at Rollie's on New Year's Eve and got to see the folks roaming the streets and then coming in for a warm-up. (and I'm there with friends around 5:30 and get home by 7 pm. Such a party animal!!)

I do go to watch the dip in the bay on New Year's Day, though. It's not for any cause - just for those who are crazy enough to do it. It's at noon and is fun to watch.

I'm glad you're sticking with the trivia challenge. Don't be discouraged. It's like this journey to a healthy lifestyle. With time we get better at it.
Also remember that many if not most of those high scores are achieved by googling the answers. There's nothing wrong with that, but I prefer to test my current knowledge.
