Introduction Text My name is Amanda and I'm 28 years old. I live in Redondo Beach, California. I've been overweight for as long as I can remember. I've tried a multitude of diets, with some success, but have always managed to find all the pounds I've ever lost, and then some. I'm having Lap-Band surgery this summer, and am currently in my 6-month physician supervised diet and exercise program to change my habits and maximize my chances at success. I know there are a lot of people who think the Lap-Band is the "easy way out" or that the risks are too great versus losing weight naturally. I say, "to each his own" and for me personally, I wholeheartedly intend to end this vicious cycle and get some long-lasting help in losing weight and keeping it off. I know the Lap-Band is not an easy fix, and it will only work in conjunction with diet and exercise, but I feel I need the extra help and am determined to make myself successful! In 2007, I did the Danskin sprint triathlon at Disneyland in Anaheim, California at 267lbs. I trained for several months, and even though I was afraid I might die before ever seeing the finish line, I wanted to prove to myself that I could do it! It was an immensely rewarding experience and I'm so glad I let my friends talk me into doing it! If you have a Danskin triathlon scheduled in your area, I highly recommend the experience. It was a huge challenge for me at that size, but the finish line feels incredible! I definitely can't wait to do my next one. As my name implies, I'm an avid kayaker! I love going out in the marina, the ocean, or the caves! I also love to swim and soak up the sun as much as possible!

My goal, before any number of pounds, is to live life without physical pain. I'm at the highest weight of my life, and I have back pain, hip pain, knee and foot pain, as well as chronic headaches. I want to wake up one morning and be able to say I feel fantastic! If I can do that, the number isn't as important. My personal goal is to weigh 165lbs. by July of 2013, which will be 3 years post Lap-Band.
