Thanks for stopping by my page. I hope you are doing well. This challenge is not going the way I would have hoped weight wise....but I keep pushing forward. I will get there. In the meantime I am enjoying the journey and the friends I'm making on the way. Now that Herb's surgery is over maybe I can get back on track and start dropping so pounds! Keep up the good work! Hello. I just saw your post about Biotin. First, I am no expert, but I just learned that Biotin is Vitamin B7. I did not know that until yesterday. I learned that from a private FB group called Hashimotos 411. I have stopped taking Biotin because I am having a thyroid panel (blood work) done on Monday. I was taking 5,000 - 10,000 mcg daily. I would take the highest dose that doctor suggests. (My husband just bought a bottle with all kinds of extra oils and bamboo extract. I am going to try that for now since we have it.)
I had been diagnosed with Hashimotos and a small thyroid goiter over 10 years ago, but because my TSH level was fine, I was never treated. I learned from Hashimotos 411 on FB that it is important to have a full thyroid panel done to check for reverse T3 and reverse T4 and more. I cannot wait to get the results back. Biotin seems to affect the results, so I stopped taking it, but I am taking it again as soon as I get my results. I didn't think it helped, but it did. I can see that since I have stopped taking it. Also, I had been getting my nails dipped at the salon for the past year. I had never had that done before. Although I loved the look and length and strength of the dipped nails, underneath my nails were getting weaker and weaker. The last time I could not even keep the dipped nail on for two weeks, whereas I had kept them on for 4 before that. (They are not fake nails, They are a powder build-up on my nails.)
As for hair, I am not sure Biotin helped, but I am going to a very knowledgeable stylist who sells only Surface products. He turned me onto Awaken, which is a 4 step kit (shampoo, conditioner, oil and spray). This is to awaken the follicles and scalp, if possible. If not, my hair is gone. Supposedly, it can take months to see a change. The dermatologist gave me a tiny pill that I am to cut into quarters to get 1.25 mg. It is Finasteride. I just did more research..and this jury is out, but I am going to try to be consistent and see what works. I started to use it, but I saw no change, but I was not consistent. I was to combine that with minoxidil (Rogaine for Women), but I have not used it. I have a box, but I have not opened it. It is expensive. The idea is that once you stop it, the hair stops growing in. At this point, I am putting y trusting my stylist. He is the best! He promises nothing because the follicles may be dead. He is working to make the hair I have healthy again.
Some say soy is not good for me, but the foods I eat with my program (I am a coach for OPTAVIA) are soy based and make me feel best. I think I lost due to stress. I am not working on overall health.
Finally, I now believe that the Vitamin D pill that I was taking daily also helped. I know I was low from blood work. Let's see what the new blood work says. I had stopped taking it, and I am curious what my own body says about my level of D now.
I hope this info helps you in some way. The more I learn, the better I feel. Recently I have learned that my body does not like corn and most gluten and processed foods and sugars. It causes inflammation and bloating and fatigue. When I do what is best for me, I feel better and look better. Here's to me doing what I know is right for me. 719 days ago
