Congrats on taking the first step into changing your life to a more healthier one by joining the site. Spark is filled with amazing people that will motivate, support and encourage you on your journey. There is so much to learn and discover here, take this one day at a time. A couple of things I would like to suggestion to make you Spark experience a great one.

    1. Make goals for yourself. Each month I make a list of what I want to accomplish that month and break them down to smaller goals to work with week by week. This way the BIG picture doesn't seem so big.

    2. Join Spark teams. There are tons of teams here and you will be able to find ones that fit to what you like or want in a team.

The key to success here is to be active and you've already started by joining. You will find that everyone is willing to help you out if you need it. Spark friends are here for support, motivation and encouragement. Good luck on your journey to a healthier lifestyle! Again, welcome to the SP family!

You stumbled on to a very good place! You'll find lots of good and informative articles here as well as a wonderful supportive community.

I wish you didn't feel ashamed of where you are....instead think of the big step you are taking and be proud that you are taking charge of your health and life.

One thing that really works is taking it slow and making small sustainable steps. Spark has a challenge that gives you daily tips on making small changes. When I started at age 61 I finally recognized that this couldn't be a diet that I'd go on and inevitably go off. Rather it had to be a lifestyle. So I took it slow since I knew that what I did to lose weight was what I'd do forever.

For exercise (assuming your doctor ok's this) start by taking a 10 mins walk. If that's too much, then walk for 5 mins. Just start AND make it a habit. Figure a time of the day that works, like right after breakfast and commit to doing this every day. Soon you'll find that you miss it if you don't do it and you'll start to add more time.

And I think you know that you'll do better eating more meals at home. Commit to eating at least one meal at home every day until that becomes a habit then start to wean yourself away from meals outside the house. You don't have to make all these changes at once.

I'm sorry that your marriage ended; that must be very hard. Now it's time to focus o you.
