Hello, my name is Jackie. On June 10, 2012, I decided to pick healthier food choices and take better care of myself. It's not easy, but am so impressed by the positive support found on Sparkpeople!

On 6 January 2014, I started the Shred Diet (6-week plan) by Dr. Ian Smith as part of my New Year's resolution to lose weight. By the end of April 2014, I lost 40 lbs following this plan and weighed less than on my wedding day almost 8 years earlier. By August 2014, I lost 70 lbs and had more energy than ever. Then, some family issues came up and I slowly fell back into my old habits. By 2017, I gained all of the weight back and now am back to the start of my weight loss journey. During the last 2 years, I can't believe how hard it's been for me to stick with healthy habits for at least one day!

Right now, I'm frustrated and ashamed that I've gained the weight back, but have decided to keep my previous weight loss results posted here. I hope it will motivate me in this new start. I did it before so nothing is holding me back now.

My Goals:
To enjoy a healthy and happy life!

My Program:
* Tracking what I eat/drink

* Choosing healthy food options (whole grains, lean protein, fruit & vegetables) over processed foods

* Drinking lots of water each day

* Aiming for cardio 5 days/week and strength training 2-3 days/week.

* Enjoy each day!

Personal Information:
My Highest weight: 268 lbs (June 2012)

During Oct 2011 through Jan 2012, I lost about 8 lbs by starting to exercise twice a week (mostly Zumba). I quit exercising, though, and by summer, I weighed my heaviest ever (268 lbs). Over the next months, I started better eating habits, lost a few pounds and didn't gain much over the holidays.

On 6 Jan 2014, I started the Shred Diet and am trying to add exercise back into my life.

First Cycle of Shred:
Starting weight: 260

* 250 - reached 27 Jan 2014
* 240 - reached 9 Feb 2014
* 230 - reached 17 Mar 2014
* 220 - reached 21 Apr 2014
* 210 - reached 2 Jun 2014
* One-derland! - reached 30 Jun
Soon thereafter, I had some issues, lost my focus & fell back into old habits. By year end 2014, I weighed 238 lbs. I continued to struggle, and combined with a loss in my family, by 2017, I gained back all of the weight I lost.

Started back on Shred on 13 Mar 2017!
* 260 - reached

Other Information:
I've got a great work-out partner -- my dog!
In rain or sunshine, he's thrilled to go on a walk!

I've battled with weight issues most of my life. In school, I was overweight until my junior year in high school, when I played on the soccer team. When I graduated high school, I was at my healthiest weight. In college, I gained weight and more pounds followed after getting married.

I've tried almost every diet over the years and have spent many years wishing for a change. My 2014 New Year's resolution is to stop wishing for a change and to actually do something about it. So, here's to a great 2014, full of positive change!

Now it's early 2017 and I'm back to the start.

    Welcome to SparkPeople!

    Are you competitive by nature? One of my daily goals is to hit 100 SparkPoints. When I do that, I've not only read articles, I've interacted with other members by reading and commenting on their blogs and writing my own blog. 100 points gets me here and gets me active each and every day.

    When I started, I made the commitment to workout daily and write a blog about it. On days when I don't feel like doing it, I think about the blog I need to write and I certainly do NOT want to write that I was lazy and did not work out.

    Maintain your goals on your SparkPage (that's what all the goal-setting gurus write about) and make the goals public on your page. Write about it on your blog every day.

    Weight loss = calorie maintenance, cardio, and strength. Calorie maintenance is every day, cardio is at least five days per week, and strength is 3 to 4 days per week. I believe you need all three for a successful weight loss and fitness program.

    Above all, be consistent. Doing something toward you goal every day will pay big rewards over the next few months. You can do this!
