Introduction Text A little bit about myself. I'm a 44 year old mom of 5. That's not a typo! I have been blessed with a large family. I have 3 grown children. One a mother to my beautiful grandbabies, another a teacher and my son is studying music at NYU. I also have my babies (that's what I call them) 11 and 10 years old at home. My youngest son, Jared has autism. He's so smart and teaches me something everyday! My daughter, Emily is so much fun to be around and I love that we're besties (well she's not a teenager yet). At the age of 37, I found a lump. Turns out I had multifocal tumors in my breast. I also found out I had a particularly aggressive form of breast cancer. I went through chemo for months and then surgery after the tumors had shrunk. It's been almost 7 years since my diagnosis. I must say that my journey through breast cancer allowed me to take a step back and re-evaluate my life. I was so stressed worrying about Jared's autism and trying to "fix" him that I wasn't enjoying all that he had to offer. I now take each day as a blessing. I have a wonderful husband, great kids and know that life is too short to worry about the little stuff. I now live in the present and not what the future might hold. As for my weight...over the past couple of years the pounds started adding up. I chalked it up to having to go through menopause early due to cancer treatment. I have made so many excuses, but really it's all about what I put in my mouth everyday. I hope to make healthier food choices because I LOVE food. I enjoy sitting around the kitchen table with my family and eating and talking. I can't give that up! So here's to a new healthy start and to losing these extra pounds!
