When I was a kid, I was very active but occassionally became chubby. This never lasted long because I was so into sports. In high school, I played varsity sports and was able to eat pretty much whatever I wanted. I continued eating whatever I wanted into college and put on the infamous freshman 15. Since I still looked okay, I didn't worry about it. After college, I continued with my poor eating habits. I gradually accepted more responsibility and to compensate, my physical activity went down. Somehow, I went in denial into how much I was eating and how fat I was getting. I graduated high school at 127. I left college at 138. I met my partner at 145. In 2006, I hit 196 and was just about to go over the 200 mark. I saw a display for a women's football team and decided to tryout. That was the beginning of my way back. Through football conditioning, I lost 25 pounds.

Then I quit smoking, and the weight started piling back on. I started running seriously on August 18, 2008, the day I quit smoking. It slowed the weight gain but didn't stop it. My quit was in danger...and then I found Sparkpeople. Since February 2009, I have lost 25 pounds with Sparkpeople and dramatically increased my running.

In May 2009, I finished the "Finish a 10k" plan in the book, Treadmill Training for Runners. I run outside with my dog, Joxer, who is the best Golden Retriver in the world! I run before work five times a week. On my rest days, I walk 2-3 miles. I experienced some burnout trying to do an additional workout in the evenings. Maybe I will be able to get back to it when I am in better shape.

For June 2009, I focused on maintaining my new level of fitness. I increased my racing distance to include 5 mile races.

In July 2009, I started a half-marathon training program. My longest run to date was 15 miles.

Over the winter, I gained a little weight back because my activity level plummetted. I am still struggling with eating within my calorie range.

I am registered to run my first half marathon in a few weeks-the Shamrock 1/2 in VA Beach. In the late summer, I will be doing two sprint triathlons.

I have a rather strange set of long-term goals. In my first year, I planned to run anything less than a 10k. Next year (starting in August), I want to concentrate on distances between 10k and a half-marathon.

I'm doing it this way, because I have a tendency to push too hard, too fast. I want to make running a lifetime habit, so I'm forcing myself to go SLOW.

I went from 175 lbs. in February 2009 to around 150 lb around August 2009.

Then I hit a plateau. I have recommitted to losing the last 13 pounds of my original goal, and set up a new timeline.

    I just made my own last chance workout. You can read it in my blog, just hopped from one cardio to another and did 10 Sparkpeople upper body ST exercises. Thanks for asking! Keep up the good work!

    The tri was switched to a du for safety reasons--the river flow was too strong. I was happy with my performance. I know I can push a little harder now.

    Which one in August? I have another one then too, lol
