Here I am again! I am 69 years old and am trying to get more fit and healthy than before. I have been a SP member for many years, but after awhile I would quit and then start over; then quit and start over again. I just got into a rut.

My husband had surgery on his cervical spine in November 2016. He had vertebrae removed and rebuilt and fused. He was off work for over three months (of course during winter) and so we sat. He was not allowed to do anything except walk. When the roads were not bad with ice or snow I would drive us to the Mall to walk, but that was only a couple times per week. We both gained quite a bit of weight and now are suffering the consequences. He has type 2 diabetes and takes medication for that. My husband just had spinal surgery (lumbar) in April, 2019 and has been off work since then. He worked maintenance in a refrigerated warehouse and is not going to be able to go back to that job. They have no light duty. He has really piled on the weight since he has not been able to exercise for almost a year. We walk...every day for anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour or more. It has helped tremendously.

Right now I am following a diabetes and healthy heart plans because of my husband. I am not diabetic, but since I will be cooking for him, I might as well follow his diet.
