Howdy, from the small town of Dickinson,Texas! I'm a stay-at-home wife/mother & have been married for over 40 years, resulting in 7 children and with 4 of them married, we have 10 grandchildren so far! I was a homeschooling mom for 32 years & "retired" a few years ago with the high school graduation of my youngest...but with a 20 year old son & a 23 year old daughter still at home, our household stays very busy with church, family, friends & juggling everyone's crazy schedule!

I never struggled with my weight until menopause...and I have the pictures to prove it! Maybe that's why they call it 'the change' because it sure changes things! Tracking calories & exercise don't control my weight quite as easily as they used to. I still do both, but I have to work a little harder at it. An aging metabolism is NOT fun!

Update: I FINALLY figured out that my Fitbit fitness tracker overestimates the number of calories I burn in a day. I'm doing much better now that I know that! I also looked back at my Spark records & found the reason I regained in the past is that I stopped tracking my food! Menopause doesn't make it any easier, but I think my own laziness has been part of the problem too!

I found Sparkpeople/Sparkrecipes in early 2009 & but my first use of the SP nutrition tracker & first weigh-in was Dec 28, 2010 at 154 lbs. I went up and down with my weight after that until 2015 when I decided to lose for good. I used my son's wedding as motivation but realized I really did want to lose the midlife weight and keep it off permanently. Maintenance takes just as much work as losing the weight! I enjoy learning about fitness & health and Sparkland is a great resource that helps me do both!

My Goals:
Long term goal: I exercise so I can stay strong & healthy and be able to lift, run & squat when I need to! #functionalfitness

Short term goal: To do a 5K and to be able to do 'real' pushups! Accomplished in 2017!

2018 Goals: Get better at pushups and maybe do another 5K!. Track food 100% of the time in 2018!

My general goal is to MAINTAIN a weight between 125-135 lbs. and to regularly exercise...both cardio and strength training.

My Program:
I often workout at home & have a treadmill, weights & assorted exercise equipment. I particularly enjoy walking outside, the kettlebell swing & step aerobics! I love my Fitbit...though sometimes I wonder who is the boss...it or me?! I walk regularly and am beginning to run a little.

2018 update: I signed up for a Cardio Drums class for fall...sounds like fun!

Personal Information:
Pioneer Baptist Church is an integral part of my life and I am grateful to God for saving me.

I'm a native West Virginian transplanted to the great state of Texas!

Other stuff....I live in a log house and home educated all 7 of my children.

Other Information:
Highest (non-pregnant) Weight: 165.5 lbs on 3/12/2015

I have struggled with about a 30-35 lb weight gain since reaching menopause in 2008.

My goal is to keep a better handle on my post-menopausal weight and be able to MAINTAIN that hold!

You are totally maintaining! Our bodies aren't like a computer and your first goal weight of 137 might just be the weight you can easily maintain. I had several goals and eventually settled on 162 and like you blew right past it to the mid 140's where I stayed for quite a while. Guess with exercise or whatever I ended up around 142 +/1 2 lbs and stayed there.

When we got Fletcher in Sept 2018 I started walking even more plus going to the gym and dropped to 138-140. And have stayed there until recently. Now that we are back in NY and we just closed on our lake house that meant weeks of cleaning it out not to mention the stress that the closing wouldn't happen. Seems like exercise wasn't quite as intense and the wine at night was a little more than was healthy. Oh! And don't forget COVID which is an ever present stressor. Now around 141 - 143 which had been my goal for years and I feel just fine and clothes fit just fine.

We know what to do and paying attention and making sure that we do the little things that we know work will get us where we want to be.

P.S. ... On the keto team I mentioned there are a lot of really informative threads. 👍 .....And there is a thread under the 1st form somewhere that has lists you can eat and then lists of no no foods. Knowledge is empowering! ... 💥...
