Introduction Text I'm a wife and mother. My kids have grown up a lot since I started here on Spark People. A new wrinkle in my life is unemployment and being over 50 and overweight as well. I must take hold of my weight or it will kill me.

I am getting below 200 in 2013.

The only thing that has ever worked for me is to minimize high carb eating. I intend to continue this process now that holidays are over. If I do find myself eating foods high in carbs, I mind the portion size--I avoid pigging out on fat-creating foods!

My hobbies used to be centered on my job as a teacher. Now I still read voraciously and take an online class to satisfy my intellectual needds. My hobbies now are centered around my home and trying to get healthier and more fit. At times I can get fired up about knitting or crochet. I am a fan of FlyLady's principals. I like to travel.

I'm unemployed and it's been an adjustment finance-wise. Fortunately, my husband is my best friend. I have two loving and supportive children that are teens now. I love reading and watching TV. Wish I loved running and sweating!
