I've been overweight all of my adult life. Getting tired of the yo yoing. In the year 2000 i was diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes. Turning a deaf ear to the diagnosis i felt "now that i'm taking meds i can eat what I want and not worry aobut the diabetes" How wrong i was. It took an almost fatal accident stemming from a blackout after a 400 blood sugar reading and a fall down a flight of stairs which could haae been much worst in the injury area. I was so lucky. Someone was watching over me. Finally some sense was knocked into my thick head. I've been eating healthy ever since. Not only making healthy choices, i exercise 6 days a week. Since last November I have lost 40 lbs. I enjoy using my sense of humor along the way. It helps burn calories when you laugh. Today i have normal blood sugar readings. I feel good, look good and I'd like to love aobut 40-50 more pounds. I've come this far, I know I can do it. I have faith in myself and Love me more today than i ever have. I'm so glad i was introduced to Spark People by a friend. It really helps to track my food and exercise. I like writing about my feelings, my emotions, my dreams.

Being almost totally Deaf/legally blind has it's drawbacks. But today I am comfortable with myself for who I am. It has not always been this way. It is the main reason for my Emotional eating disorder that triggered Binge Eating normally at night. That is in my past thanks to SparkPeople.

DEBS, The middle son was living in California working for Clorox.
He did not care for the place. He lived in Walnut Creek.

Some placement was out and he flew to Wisconsin and liked the area and It was like Maine climate.
He has a huge house we have not seen. He is a bachelor and loves his job. We have rarely seen him since high school.

The youngest one is living in our basement and we like it and they are trying to get money for a house of there own. They are both working and their daughter does not go to school. She is virtually schooled in our house and her room is upstairs.

We are getting ready to go to visit Wisconsin. Pat in Maine.(((HUGS))) emoticon emoticon but I am not doing great so we are going to see him.

In April I was at 185# as I had gained during the winter, and I'm at 147# now thanks to the doctor I found. Look up Ward Dean M.D. on YouTube and listen to him tell his story and his use of Metformin. He's an anti-agnig doctor. I had seen a doctor a year earlier who told me "You can't expect to lose weight at your AGE since you have Metabolic Syndrome." My blood sugar was 115 and he said "Diabetes starts at 126, so you don't need Metformin. Dr. Dean had me read the insert in the Metformin package that said "If you may develop Type 2 diabetes you can use this medicine." He said "You don't have diabetes but you are close enough. He also gave me Bontril to control my appetite, but I didn't need it after the first day. I felt horrible the first week getting off sugar, but I lost 20# the first month as I had a lot of swelling. He gave me Armour Thyroid to take at night so I stopped eating after 5 PM. I take a weekly shot of Bydureon which helps blood sugar.
I want to drop another 20# and I know I can do it now. I have to work with this leg and make sure it heals so I have to balance what I'm eating. I see the doctor again on Thursday. Oh, he also gave me Acarbose which blocks carbs and that cuts some calories.
When I was doing my Physical Therapy those 34 days, I was so glad to not being carrying the exercise weight, as so many of the other patients there were overweight. At 67, I was at the "young" end of the clients, but it just made me see where I don't want to go in 10 yrs from now.
I'd say to look for a doctor near you who will work with you. Dr. Dean says that most doctors really don't care about older people, but we have so much at stake with heart disease, etc.
