I am also part Cherokee Indian. My great grandmother was 100% - so I have a small amount. However, I enjoy going to Cherokee, NC a couple of times per year and checking the natual beauty of the area. Have a great week.

Hi - I know there are a lot of challenges on SP. Many are by invitation, like the one I wrote about. The 5% challenge runs eight weeks, then has a two week break, and then starts again. So the Fall version will start in late September (since Summer version just started last Saturday). You can often see references to challenges in your friends' blogs, and then you can ask them about the challenge they're in, and how to be invited. You can also do a search on "Challenge" on the Spark Team page, and see what pops up. Many, many people (including me) start their Spark journey with Coach Nicole's bootcamp challenge, or the ten minute a day exercise challenge. Hope this helps!

Hi Coolrain. Your page is beautiful. I am part Indian, but we were never able to find out what tribe or clan my great grandmother belonged to. It was somewhere in Pennsylvania, but even though my oldest sister tried to find out, she had no luck. I only have her picture. Welcome to SP.
Quitting smoking is hard, but it CAN be done. I quit 13 years ago after 30 years of it and some of those years were no filter! Just don't substitute food for the smokes. It'll keep you from gaining.

Hi COOLRAIN and welcome to Spark People where you will meet many very supportive and encouraging people. Spark People is not a diet; it is definitely a lifestyle change. Congratulations on quitting smoking to both you and Knightrider1222. emoticon That is TERRIFIC!!! Losing weight is a benefit of eating healthier, drinking water, and exercising. It seems to me that every pound lost made a difference and all the little one pounds have added up which have made a big difference in my numbers. Take each day one small step at a time — they'll add up over time. I never thought I would be able to lose my weight. I had to break my weight loss goals down into 5 pound increments because I knew I could lose 5 pounds, I had already done that many times before...100 pounds though just sounded like more than I could handle. I didn't even want to thing about it! Of course I am still working on another 5 pounds with 3 of the 5 gone. A pound a week may sound like a lot right now, but when you drop several pounds in one week, it makes it easier for those weeks when nothing is lost. But the inches just slowly melt away and suddenly your clothes are fitting better or are too big. Amazing how it all works together!! I am much healthier now, eating healthier, exercising (walking) daily and am off several medications. SP has definitely been a life saver for me and the friends I have made are invaluable.
My opinion on getting started with Spark People is DEFINITELY GO FOR IT!!! No matter how things turn out, eating healthy, exercising, and drinking water can't hurt. It can only help both you and your husband.
Fast forward yourself a year into the future. Where do you see yourself? If you do nothing now, you can bet 100% that things will not get better, you may develop medical problems and you could possibly be heavier. If you go with the plan SP has set up for you, you may or may not be 50 pounds lighter, eat and feel healthier, have more energy, do things you haven't thought about for a long time or been able to do; but at least you will be 100% sure that you tried. That doesn't mean you have to do everything 100%, 100% of the are human and can only do the best you can do. Just try. If you slip up, that's ok. Pick yourself up, dust yourself off (maybe a swift kick to the seat of the pants) and get moving again. God gives us a new day every 24 hours, start fresh. Each day is a new beginning, treat it as such. Make the most of every day that God gives you.
Remember it is guaranteed that if you do nothing, nothing will change; at least it won't get any better.
Wake up each morning knowing that you have been given a new chance, put a smile on your face, give yourself a little pep talk because you know you can do this and get your day started with a happy thought, and thank God you have this new day. Before you go to sleep each night, thank God for the day you have just had and a pat on your back for a job well done...that you did the best you could for that day.
I hope this helps a little...set your goals for you, not for someone else. You are in control! You are working toward making yourself a healthier you. You can do this!!!
Any time you want to chat, vent, or have a blessing, just drop me a line...a spark mail, an email, or a comment on my spark page. I will get back to you.
God bless you as you travel this journey to a healthier you.

P.S. Just remember, there are days I walk into walls too!!!! I just smile and look for the door.
