    Hi, Carmen !

    If I were to go back in time and give myself one piece of advice that would help me lose weight and be healthy, it would be to eat 6-9 servings of fresh fruit and veggies each and every day.

    You don't have to be a fitness instructor to lose weight. What people really need to do is watch what they eat. Most people don't realize that diet really is more important than exercise.

    What do I do now ? I eat lots of fresh fruit for snacks. If you're diabetic, you'll need to watch what fruit you eat. I eat tons of veggies with my meals. And I am very mindful of my portion sizes. There was a time I could pack away 2-3 candy bars a day. no more of that. It took many years, but I had to learn to reform my eating habits.

    So very sorry to hear about your Dad. For sure you want to get a hold of it since it's something present in your genes. I am at the point where I could easily go without tracking as I know what to eat and not eat. But I actually got addicted to tracking and love doing it. Sometimes I don't do it when I eat out as it's just too hard to know what is in things. You can visit my sparks page and I share my food trackers. Again take the time to add things to your Favorites as that will make things easier for later. also know that if you have a meal and want to copy it to another day you can do that.

    I would for sure want to track my food vs track my Insulin.

    Oh and I forgot to mention...way back when when I was close to 200 lbs, my doctor told me that soon I would have to go on insulin. I was around 21 at the time. I cried and asked him if there was anything else I could do so I wouldn't have to shoot up with insulin. He say jokingly..."yeah you could lose like 50 lbs". That is when I went to Weight Watchers and lost the weight and I have never had to go on Insulin. My grandmother had both legs amputated due to diabetes which could have been prevented had she ate right and lost weight. So for me it is a no brainer. I have seen what diabetes can do to you so it is serious to me.
