I carried an extra 25 lbs for 25 years. In the era of the "Biggest Loser" that may not seem like a big deal. I had always been told by family and friends that I could "carry it." The photo of me finishing a half marathon back in 2006 attests to that. Finally, on Jan 1, 2009 I decided that I just didn't want to "carry it" anymore, not for 13.1 miles, not up and down stairs, nowhere.

Because I was already really active and fit and water was my beverage of choice, the "easy" advice of "move more and drink water" did not apply to me.

Now, that I've reached 9 years of maintenance, I never want to go back! Gradualism was my plan and now maintenance is my goal.

The 5% in my title refers to the percentage of people who successfully maintain their weight loss after a certain number of years. The number of years varies with each study (3, 4, 5 or more). That's why, even after all these years, I continue to log in to Sparkpeople every morning.

This program is responsible for my success and I intend to stay right here. Besides, there are always new things to learn, new ideas to keep things fresh and new people to meet.

Thank for your caring comment on my blog and your support. A day of rest and reflection really did help...and so did my Spark Friends. Since you're going through the process with your parents' things too I know you understand.

Thank you for your kind comment on my blog. I was riding a quad and fell off, tumbling down a cliff and the quad flipped backwards down the cliff landing on top of me. For a long time spent life on the couch and then struggled to walk half a block. Bless my dh - he would walk with me, waiting while I would rest at every place I could. Slowly improved some, pt for half a year, and refusing to accept all limitations, back to moving. However, I cannot carry extra weight. Now that the weight is gone, working again to strengthen upper body so that I can do even more. For me it truly is a case of use it or lose it.

Just read your post on clothes - that is me exactly. I didn't think twice about the weight at times - same size as ever right! And I too now have new underware - thanks to a fantastic clearance sale! Also retired - would hate to have to find work clothes. Do have to do something about the bra though - I had just discovered those super comfty nice big straps and don't want to give them up for the little thin straps that are my size now!

Just strolling through SPARK to announce that today is "WORLD SAUNTERING DAY! "(from the website Holiday Insights)

The dictionary defines sauntering as walking along slowly, happily and aimlessly. Now, doesn't this sound like a wonderful way to get around?"

Why not get outside and saunter through the park or down your block?

(((( Sending SKINNY Vibes! )))) and strong, strolling feet!
