Tornadoes can happen all through the year, but we get most of them in the spring. A really bad one hit our neighborhood about 50 years ago in January. It hopped around, going in a straight line from near us to downtown St. Louis. It destroyed a block of houses in our neighborhood, ripped the roofs off all the houses across the street, wrecked our roof (although we weren't living here then, and killed a little 3yo girl a block over. Tornadoes are weird, too. They can do all that damage in a couple minutes and yet a strawberry was found, whole, driven into a telegraph pole. At least we're safe if we get in our basement. In Oklahoma, or in many places, they don't have basements because the soil is such that a basement can't be built. 7 hours ago

We in the Midwest worry about thunderstorms, but especially worry about the tornadoes which are getting more severe. It's the tornado season now. We had a practice warning the other day. 1 day ago
