First off let me tell you a little about myself, my name is Amanda and I am a 27 year old Engineering/Surveying Technician in Kentucky. I am a former athlete, used to play basketball, softball and golf in high school but every since I guess you could say that I have just gotten plain lazy. Every since I started my current job 4 years ago I have been gradually gaining weight (I think a large part of this is due to grabbing a quick bite to eat in a fast food drive thru and not getting enough exercise) thanks to this wonderful convenience and just pure laziness at times I have put on 40 lbs in the past year. Sometimes I think there aren’t enough hours in a day to do all that I need to. But I am in the process of making some changes.

I try to run at a local gym during my lunch hour when I am at one of my offices, and in the evenings I do a lil circuit training with weights and a boxing buddy (my slam man) this along with keeping my daily calorie intake under 1000 will hopefully bring me to my goal soon.

My motivation for loosing weight is to be eligible to join the UNITED STATES NAVY. For my height (5’-6”) I must weigh 170 or less OR the combined total of the largest part of my hips added to the smallest part of my waist and subtract the circumference of my neck must be 62" or less.
Right now my combined total is 65 inches, and my current weight is 197lbs. I have already lost around 8lbs. I go to the recruiting station every Monday to weigh in.

Joining the US NAVY has been a dream of mine for around 8 years now, and now that I have the strength to stand up to the people that talked me out of it last time I no do not meet the physical qualifications to join. I do not want to regret not doing this for any longer and I am in full speed 110% committed to meet their qualifications.

I would like to loose my weight as fast as possible so that I can go ahead and enlist in the NAVY, because there is a 6 mo waiting period to go to boot camp. But after I pass my physical I would still like to continue to loose and to build strength and endurance so boot camp will not kick my butt.

I know that my journey is not going to be easy but then again anything worth having rarely is. I gained 40lbs last year and I plan on loosing 30 of it in less than a 2 month period. I have big plans in mind…just gotta stay motivated!

Congrats on your accomplishment! I saw your page on the navy teams and thought I would check it out. I have 50 pounds to lose, and I want to enlist so bad. I think it is cool you are going to weighins at the recruiters. I haven't even gone yet, because the nearest one to me is almost an hour away. Is there really a six month waiting period for basic? anyhow- Just thought Id say hey, and good job, and keep it up. Thats so awesome, gives me something even more to shoot for. Liz

Howdy! I'm seeking out women who might be interested in joining Lexington's local rollerderby league - Rollergirls Of Central Kentucky (ROCK). I've been skating with this league for two years (and didn't actually know how to skate when I joined, lol!). This is a totally athletic sport is for women of all shapes, backgrounds, and ages. Send me a message if you'd like more info!

you can TOTALLY get into the navy! of course! Have you tried any "Boot Camp" classes? I'm sure they're nothing like the real thing, but I just started doing one here and it is INTENSE.

Hi Amanda I read your brief bio an I would like to share this low carb diet with you that I got from my Dietition where I lost 40lbs in 2months time ( no more than 45g ,and no less than 15g of carbs per meal, 1 snack of 15g of carbs per day)remember that meat of any kind have no carbs but dont go hog wild with consumption serving portion, about the size of a computer mouse. stop counting calories and only concentrate on the carbs and the rest will all fall into place. the body will store carbs faster than anything else try it for a week or two and see what your results will be it won't hurt please let me know how you are doing just drop me a line Deeds
