I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes the beginning of July 2010. In August I took a diabetic education class and began my healthy lifestyle. In October a friend introduced me to SparkPeople. I have been hooked ever since. Since July I have lost 40 lbs!! I took it the slow and healthy way. I walk/run my dog at a very brisk pace every night alternating the distance and route to accomodate my strength training. I have now reversed my diabetes and can go off my meds! My doctor is amazed and very pleased with my new lifestyle changes. I love the way I feel and look. Life is GREAT!!! Thanks SparkPeople =)

My Goals:
I want to lose weight in order to be healthy. I want to keep my blood glucose levels in the healthy range for someone with diabetes. And I will continue to exercise 5-6 times a week for life : ) I want to live a long, healthy life so I can enjoy my grandchildren some day when my sons ever decide to give me some :)


My Program:
I walk 3-4 times a week and do strength training 2-3 times a week. During the winter I substitute fitness videos for the walking so I can still keep my heart in shape. I walk/run with my daycare kids in our school gym too. I keep track of my fitness and nutrition on SparkPeople. I eat healthy foods 90% of the time and indulge myself one or two times a week but always in moderation.



Personal Information:
I am a Christian. I live in a small city in Michigan and work in a child care facility. I love my job. My husband is a pastor of a fairly large Lutheran church. My dog is now my kid as my sons both live out-of-state. They have brought 2 lovely women into our family and I look forward to the day when they all give me grandchildren :) I love my life!!

    Hi, I just read your article about controlling your diabetes and want to say Congrats. I too was able to control my diabetes through diet and exercise. Two years ago I lost 55 lbs and was able to come off metformin. Sadly, I gained the weight back and am now back on medication. With Spring around the corner, I have renewed my desire and commitment to once again take control of my diabetes. Thanks for the inspiration.

    Thank you for writing that article. You did me a wonderful favor by writing it.
    My doc's office called this past Friday to inform me that I now have diabetes.
    I never thought that I would hear those words. They have scared the heck out of me.
    Now I will see the diabetic clinician in 3 weeks to set up a plan on how and what to do to keep me from getting further into this disease.
    You would think that I would know better being a nurse for many years. I never thought this would happen to me.
    I do know that I have to change my eating habits, drink water, and exercise.
    If you don't mind I would like to add you as a friend so that I may get some good tips from you.
