I've struggled with weight and depression since I graduated from high school. At my highest I was over 150 lbs (I stopped checking, it was that bad) and wearing size 12-14 jeans. The worst point for me during my weight gain was having to have my wedding gown let out because I'd put on so much weight I couldn't zip it up and I continued to gain weight despite feeble attempts to increase my activity.

My first big weight loss came during my divorce in 2002 when I was so upset I hardly ate for almost a month and dropped 10 lbs. After my divorce was finalized I decided I want to continue the weight loss, but in a healthy way. I started walking and playing DDR. Then I ordered some DVDs and followed a workout program for three months. I also gradually improved my diet by including more lean proteins and a salad every day with dinner. By 2004 I'd lost over 40 lbs from my pre-wedding weight.

One day while I was taking my evening walk I felt like a bomb had gone off inside me. It was so painful I cried through the night and hardly slept. A few months later after several doctors and medications I finally convinced them to do surgery which is when I found out I had endometriosis. I fought the disease for over three years with 2 surgeries, 5 doctors, depot lupron treatments, and over 20 medications. I became so debiltated and exhausted that most normal activity was impossible. I even considered getting a wheel chair. My weight stayed fairly static because I was frequently too sick to eat due to the mediction but after my 2nd surgery when I lost my left ovary I started rapidly gaining weight again (about 4 lbs/month).

However, my 2nd surgery was a success and I've been endo-pain free for six months. Even though I'm still dealing with health issues I feel like now is the time to take back my body. There is no cure for endometriosis and the thought of a relapse is my biggest motivation. I want to be healthy so I can fight even harder if it comes back.

My Latest Nutrition Finds:

Mandarin oranges. These are actually tangerines and are smaller and sweeter than an orange. They have thinner peels so it's less work and they're fairly portable due to their size.

My Latest Fitness Finds:

Elsie's Yoga Class Podcast. Elsie has such a powerful voice that's full of wonder and laughter. I'm really looking forward to following along with her classes this summer when I can do yoga outside.
